Driftless SW Wisconsin

Ben - 3/12/2016 16:06...  I have tested some years ago and at that time the stockpile was more nutritious than a bale of grass hay that year. I think the reason is most hay put up in Mo. is past its prime when rolled. Where as the normal stockpile is still in its prime.

Question, Ben. Why would stockpile left in the field not mature and get "past its prime" just like hay rolled up past its prime? Something different about that fescue?

I was just out with my bulls looking them over and find them grazing brown grass now that the snow is gone. Is there much nutrition in a brown, northern grass mix in March before anything else starts growing for the spring?
