North Central Kentucky | Biltmore used to be a very large dairy. In the 80s they dispersed the herd. From that point they went into beef. They have about 200 head of cattle on the estate. They are mostly angus with a few crossed with Wagu.
They also have chickens, pigs, sheep, a greenhouse, a veggie farm, a trout business and 75 acres of grapes for the winery. Most of these ventures are used at the restaurants on the estate.
They also have 50 acres of canola they process into bodiesel that the vehicles on the estate use.
The barn in the first picture was built in the early 1900s by Vanderbilt. It was recently refurbished for tourism.
The other photos are from the other stops on the trip. | |
