| Not a diesel or even a pickup but when we bought our Honda Odyssey minivan new I waited until the maintenance minder told me to change the oil because I was concerned if I changed it earlier it would fail to break in correctly.
I took a sample when I changed it and sent it in. It was in fairly bad condition. Looking back I wish I had changed it at 3,000 miles instead of 7,500+. It took probably 3 or four more oil changes at the 7,500 mile interval to get most of that crap cleaned up (according to oil samples) and it's just now starting to look extremely good on the oil samples at 70,000 miles so maybe it didn't hurt it that much but I still wouldn't do it that way again. I think if I ever buy a new vehicle again I'll either make the first oil change at 1/2 to 1/3 of the recommended intervals of I'll pull regular samples early to help me decide when to change it.
In your situation, I personally would change now. | |
