Central North Carolina | Obama has very few cost control provision, just a few Medicare ones.
First, obamacare does provide insurance to some people at a lower cost. That lower cost is covered either directly from the taxpayers through subsidies or from other people already covered, i.e .premium taxes. So all we are doing is moving money around.
Second, obamacare has required mandatory coverage for things your previous policies may not have included. However that new coverage just increase your premiums or deductibles, regardless if that coverage benefits you. For example most of us do not need free birth control. Yet since premiums for male and female of the same age now must have the same premiums by law, men are paying more and women a little less for all things being equal.
You then have the 30 hr. work week rules that result in more folks working two part-time jobs as employers are limiting hrs worked.
A lot of Obamacare plans are crap. High deductibles with limited network of providers. But since folks are required to have coverage by law they pick the cheapest plan. In effect it is not real insurance at all. What is the chances a poor person can cover a 5,000 deductible.
Yes a lot of people have insurance that didn't before mostly due to Medicaid expansion, (nothing innovative about lowering the poverty bar). But everyone else is paying for it, surprise surprise. There is no free lunch for most of us.
Over the last few years prior to Obamacare insurance inflation had moderated greatly, since then rates way up vs. inflation.
