Subject: RE: 4440 oil filter

NE Alberta
There is a serial number break in the 4440 engines where the early ones had a camshaft driven oil pump and the later ones (roughly 1981-82 models) had a crankshaft driven oil pump. IF you have a late model with the crank driven oil pump, you can switch to a "50 series" oil filter "stud" and use the RE57394 filter. It takes more pressure to push the oil through this filter and if it is used on the early engines with the cam driven oil pump, the drive gear (a known weak point) will fail prematurely.
