Massachusetts | We haven't tried to milk any of our beef X Holstein crosses with our milking herd. We sort of think it may be a waste to breed one and waste that expense and energy on a heifer we know isn't going to earn her keep in the herd. That being said we are intrigued by keeping one like a 'beef cow' (breeding her back the same or different beef breed) and raising a 75% beef calf. Just for fun kinda-maybe eating the calf and seeing if we like that meat more or less than our usual Holstein steer or beefXholsten we usually put in the freezer.
