When there is good subsoil moisture and conditions are such that the fire department will let you burn, it will usually not burn the wooden posts. It does seem that the fire does hurt the wire. In 2006 there was a wild fire that burned thousands of areas in one afternoon when there was no subsoil moisture and almost all of the hedge posts were burned off at the ground, we only use steel post because of this.
