Subject: pasture burn again

North Mo.
Ok have a field of Switchgrass established in 1981 I think. I used to burn it every year to hold the fescue back. Got to thinking why hold the fescue back why not get a graze or 2 in the spring a graze or 2 of the switch in the summer then at least one graze of the fescue in the fall and or winter. If I had continued the burning I would have missed a opportunity to graze most of the time. Yes I might have had more switch say one time but total tonnage off the field would have been short in comparison. These former last two springs have been hard on the switch as it has rained so much the fescue pretty much had its way in the field. This last year due to a different grazing rotation the switch has had a more even chance. I hope to increase it a bit by a stronger grazing in the spring.
Also for the one who said the snide remarks invasive plants what ever they are have not been a problem in this field, I think I quit burning in the late 90's maybe 2000.
Diversity is the spice of life for grazing.
