I start on the downwind side about 5 to 10 foot in from the fence. Then work into the wind down the sides. Then go to the upwind side and light the rest of it on fire. The fire isn't racing as hot coming to the fence that way. My experience has always been the rotten posts that need replaced are the ones that burn. Our fences are 5 tpost then a hedge post.
