| I worked at the Konza prairie while at k-state. My job was to sort through grass samples and separate the grass from weeds. Then we ground down the samples and tested them. They had 1,2,5, and 10 year burn areas of native bluestem grass. You could clearly see that the stuff that was burned every year had way less weeds and brush in it. Some of the stuff burned every 10 years looked pretty bad. I burned off a pasture last year, and it sure helped slow down the cedars and brush. Currently have a burn ban now. | |
