Subject: RE: AI good and bad?

Central KY
Everything on the farm here gets 1 round of AI, then a cleanup bull turned in. Improved genetics, more calves born early in the calving season, a tighter window of calving, and fewer opens are the pros. I guess the only con is multiple trips through the chute. Everyone wants to talk about how much time it takes, but I sat down and figured it up this winter and we spent roughly 10 hrs total on AI work for 75 cows in 4 different groups. Usually just me and my wife or me and my dad, and an AI tech on breeding day. I figure we waste more than 10 hrs a year doing things a lot less productive than sync and AI work with the cows.
