| I remember being at a conference 25 years ago that was titled , Large Herd Dairy Conference. We were told that the U.S. only needed like 3000 dairies with 1000 cows to supply the nations milk and we better position our farms for this. On the ride home, we listed 5 reasons why this would never happen. Guess what, those reasons all disappeared and now here we are. So, you have 2 choices : Have a large herd that produces a commodity of milk for the masses, or provide milk for a segment of the population that are willing to pay more for their food , organic, grassfed, raw, etc. Anytime supply management is brought up, it gets shot down for 10 different reasons by 10 different groups. This is where we are at . Ron
