Good facilities and good genetics on the cattle. You don't need to spend a lot of money on facilities but a well thought out easy to use working set up is very important. Buy good cattle. I don't mean go buy the most expensive 600lb black steers, but buy the calves that are discounted for things other than quality. Small groups, big calf got sorted off, odd color those kinds of things.
