se Wisconsin | Ok, so here is some background. We raise dairy heifers and are looking to build facilities for animals about 500lbs to short bred, about 1000lbs. We've looked at lots of great building designs including freestall slat barns, regular freestall, bed pack, and virginia counterslope (self cleaning). We already have a monoslope type barn with 26 ft. bed pack and bed that with a bedding chopper. The design that interests me quite a bit is the counterslope barn. It would be about 26 ft pack area and 14 ft. alley. Bedding could be blown in with our chopper and cattle would ( in theory ) work it down over time into the alley and scraped out. Seems like the ammonia level would be less if the urine and manure were to be worked down and scraped.
I've been looking back at lots of threads and have appreciated all the great info that has been shared. Lots to think about. Hoping some of you that have experience with this could give me some advice.
Thanks. | |
