How many things might be running at once. If just washing up the equipment, half inch should be ok. If washing the pipeline and holding pen at the same time, at least an inch to where those uses Tee off.

We put in a wash water tank with a submersible pump dropped in it for all the floor and lane washing. Just have a float valve on it to keep it filled. Inspector treats it like any stock watering tank since it has no connection to the potable water supply.
