Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!

aussiebagger - 2/29/2016 03:25 Looks great! How many ewes do you run? People must see pictures of the way you guys lamb, indoors. Then they think that it is necessary down here. All that is needed here usually is some good protection from wind by scrub, hills or shelter belts and the lambs can cope ok being born outdoors. We occasionally get some persistent people banging on our doors telling us the neighbours lambs or our calves should be indoors. Some people think we should all be wearing the same hat, regardless of where we are!!

Yeah, we lamb in May up here, and we do not need facilities either. It is how we keep costs low. Hardly any labor. Read a book called more grass, more sheep, more money. The author, from Manitoba, almost killed himself and his family with high labor winter lambing. Then he went to pasture lambing, and he was so taken by it, he wrote a book. Lotsa ways and times to lamb tho. Not begrudging those who winter lamb at all...

I have a sister who feels our dogs should be housed in front of the fireplace. I guess coyotes, squirrels, foxes and so on should all be brought in at 40 below too! lol
