Waverly MN | Agree completely. I understand why above commenters stated that harvesting, storing, and loading it think it should be worth more. But it is not. Especially corn silage. Very limited market. The local elevator is not interested in a truck load of silage. They will buy a load of dry corn. In my opinion the buyer has more leverage than the seller on both corn silage and haylage than if it were dry corn and dry hay. I always figure about 10x the price of dry corn in my area for value on corn silage. It seems to be a good starting point for negotiating. Hay is a bit tougher. I like to figure average sale price per point of rfv, then figure the moisture difference into it to determine value. But you have to have a test on the haylage to do that. | |
