NE Iowa | In my area, some of them are small herd dispersals, where they probably did just that - held and fed through most of winter looking for a stronger price to sell at end of winter when heavier bred. Some others may be short-bred cows picked off herds where they were preg'd and want to move later calvers. BH's are usually folks that bought them as opens and bred with full intentions of moving at this time, close to calving.
