As of now FAA has no legal rules just suggestions. In order to be a legal rule they have to go through all the public vetting and follow the procedures to make it a rule and they have not done that. If FAA thinks there is a emergency they have the right to make a legal rule for that case like having to register yourself as a pilot. According to the FAA you can't make a map of your corn fields because you sell the corn to make money and that would be commercial use. The good news is congress has to pass a bill by March 31 to fund the FAA and they have put a amendment in the bill that a drone under 4.4 pounds you can use for commercial use need to watch this.

Another twist, one of the boys in our RC club worked for Google on there drone program. He was involved in the talks on the registration. We were talking to him about all this stuff and he said the most stupid thing that is going on is if you fly a drone with a ground station were it takes off flys the waypoints and lands itself it is not Considered A drone and does not have to follow the rules so if that is true you aren't flying FPV but just flying along. Are we confused yet, welcome to the crowd I just wish FAA would do there job so we would know how to proceed with the drones. | |
