I can understand women using their maiden names, in my community it is very common, but what I do not understand is men using a maiden name. It is getting to be quite common in the higher society men in my community like college professors for example. Now I have not figured it out yet if they are using their mother’s maiden name or their wife’s. To me it seems like they may have an identity crises or something.
It is possible that their middle name actually is their mother's maiden name. My grandfather was named that way by his parents in 1929.
