North of London | The 50 -100 distance sounds about right.
Have a couple customers who put snow fences up every year and every storm 'uses' the fence a little differently according to which way the wind blows.
So what I have noticed is those who have the most success with placing the fence watch it each year and tweak its location so the 2 I can think of have been doing it for 10 years or more and they know where to put it and how to add a little bend or different direction to the end in some locations to cut off the drifting.
Both those yards used to really pile in but the fences reduce the snow so they can usually get through and all I have to do is tidy it up for a minimum charge instead of spending too much time blowing out big drifts they could never drive through.
So wherever you put it take notes and watch what happens then adjust the location the next year.
If it is really bad for drifting in, a second fence a little further out will catch the first storm or two and keep the lane or yard clear better or longer. | |
