Subject: custom work opinions

Central IL
I do about 500 acres of custom work for a family. The 82 yr old man still controls 100% of every decision. His decisions are awful, no fertile or lime, regardless of soil test proving his lime and fertility are total crap. Before I started doing weeds we unbelievable. I've cleaned up the weed messes by using higher rates and good combinations of preemerge products that I buy wholesale and buy his at same price as mine. My rationale is I don't want to harvest weeds and he agreed. The last 2 years since I've started doing his farming he has absolutely had the best two crops he ever had. Now this year he's complaining up a storm that everything costs to much and that he wants do drastically cut his Chem costs and seed costs. I found him some deals on seed and found him nongmo corn for 150 a bag that is two good varieties and bought corvus for 3.85 an ounce and was going to do a one pass post plant preemerge with generic gly, to save on application costs.. I don't know how one could raise corn any cheaper? I'm insulted that I work hard to do a good job, raise him good crops and cheaply as I can. He will not rent it and is unwilling to change anything. His family think I do a great job but at the end of the day he makes all decisions. I do 100% of the work so I do make some money on it but he is a slow payer and if it was free, it would cost too much. Thoughts on dealing with custom work, I like the income but I feel majorly disrespected.
