Subject: RE: Cash Out of Check Off Tax?

Ontario's West Coast , Huron County
Tom I understand and know where you are coming from . Have sat on local and provincial boards . Many times the board itself does not realize that when some one who is paying a checkoff asks a question they are not all asking to be an a$$ but because of a genuine interest in wanting to know more of what their representatives are doing on their behalf with their and every producers money . Some times great ideas and improvements come from people who are not board members . Boards need to realize that as much as they need to communicate with those who they are lobbying to make changes ( gov.) along with education of the public they also need to let the members know what they are doing and why . Maybe the board spot light needs to be a flood light so that things are more transparent .

When it comes to attracting members and involvement telling some one to "either get involved personally in these organizations or keep your mouth shut" does nothing but ask for more negative comments , shows a lack of respect and really attracts or asks for problems . You might be better to ask those people if they have ever considered getting involved , that new board members are always welcome and needed to keep things current and progressive . Don't forget that as much as you may think that every one else is sitting on the sidelines in their easy chair yelling foul don't forget that you signed up for the position and might need thicker skin . You may be giving the impression that you are the one in the easy chair in the glass house . Communication is key ! Communication is easier than it has ever been with the web , smart phones and technology .

On the flip side I have encountered many disgruntled members . Most are reasonable but some are not . One thing for sure though is that it is their/members money that is being used . You could say they are paying for a service .

Sugar or vinegar . As a board and a board member you choose which one you are using .
There are many more things that I could write but that is enough for now .
