NC Kansas | I don't think it's simply just ground/air temps that cause winter kill. I'm 35 and really have only seen it widespread for the first time last year. Many many fields had streaks in them... We were overly dry in our bean stubble, just a little rain in the fall to get it emerged, then just dry cold winter and dry cold spring. Lots of terrace tops were killed and places with poor emergence/ development were killed out too. I think soil moisture... Which ties into soil temps and root development has more to do with it than just plain temperature | |
