No they aren't. The same mindset existed back then  but the number of farmers was greater.  Now as that number dwindles, the same attitudes that existed then are just easier to see because the sample is smaller.

Also, the good ol days are probably more of a perception of younger eyes and as we get older we just see things a little more clearly.
