In short we are not 100% sustainable with the soil until we replace 100% of all the nutrients we are taking out? I have thought about this before, but reading your post has spiked my interest again! That is approximately true, but in some cases there are such huge supplies of certain mineral nutrients in the soil that they will last centuries. No need to replace those just yet ;-) . . . on the other hand, if you change mgmt practices to where you are building soil OM, you may quickly come up short of many secondary and micronutrients that previously were adequate. |
