Southern Mn | Seems like you kind of have the part of farming that I for one dont care for. The questions you are asking are the same questions we as Farmers all ask all the time.Doesnt sound like you have any storage at home? Does Mom need the money now? If she doesn't, will waiting till maybe June offer enough carry to cover the cost of more storage cost? If the answer is no to the second question, then sell it, take the cash and don't look back. Going forward to next year, maybe you need to gently educate Mom that at times like these, paying storage isn't always plausible.
Mention forward selling to her,if she is dead set on storing no matter what the futures are, then you just need to let her see how it goes, sometimes it pay's, sometimes it doesn't.
So I've done a poor job of answering your questions, but thats kind of what grain farming and marketing are all about.
There are other way's but I'm sure she doesnt want to start speculating or paying calls and whatnot. | |
