I believe, however, that it is a legitimate function of government to make sure there is adequate competition, and that means ensuring that too few people don't end up with all of the marbles. The rest of us become, more and more, simply renters. The middle class disappears.



Best way to do this is get rid of the excessive regulatory and excessively litigated environment we live in today. This is why big companies lobby so hard on legislation. If they can get 30,000 new pages of regulations passed the companies with the deepest pockets stand the best chance of working around them. The small entrepreneur can't retain a branch of $100k a year lawyers to wade through all the rules. But Walmart, GM, GE, Apple sure can.

But that is off the topic of the thread I suppose.
