Engine horsepower (HP) is a function of engine thermal efficiency (TE) and fuel flow in gallons per hour (GPH)

HP = TE x FUEL FLOW (GPH) x 44.2

Engine horsepower is not a function of fuel BTU per gallon. Here is a link to one explanation of the equation for engine horsepower:
