I remember well the inflation of the 70's which was not hyperinflation but problem enough and how Paul Volkers tight money cure of the 80's broke the inflation cycle and put a thousands of farms on the auction block, but I believe the pain and suffering caused by the deflation of the 30's far exceeded any economic problems since that time.
Consider that nearly all the Central Banks in the world right now are using nearly all tools available to stave off deflation and just barely getting the job done. Makes a guy wonder if it's time to restock the old mason jar in a post hole banks used in the Great Depression of the 30's. | |
