2013 +5.9 bushels for treated
2014 +1.5 bushels for treated
2015 +2 bushels for treated
2012 trials were scrapped due to weather damage. My guess is that a guy with a combine would see the 2013 results from the seat and the guy running in 2014 & 2015 would realize the benefit but not see it. 3 year average is 3.1 bushels. These are from 6 locations (2 north, 2 central & 2 south) with 4 replications each. Treatment was fungicide + insecticide. So, not treating saved up to $15/acre to lose $28/acre at $8.50 soybeans.
As we cut seed drop, treatment ensures that every seed can get out of the ground and grow. I would not recommend a seed without a treatment of a good fungicide and inoculant. In many cases I'd recommend an insecticide but unless there was a green manure crop or manure spread, scouting and treating could cover for a seed applied insecticide. | |
