Jesup, IA | Speaking as a producer that sends 85% of my crop to ADM/Penford/Cargill Starch in CR, many trucks a day, most days of the month. Take a cookie here while they are being passed.
This is great winter basis for CR for an ample supply market. Skip the fancy stuff. Use your own broker to adjust your futures price to the perfect moment to sell. If you really feel that you must do the fancy stuff, try it on a small lot.
The 2 over basis is m/l just for quick ship? In a week it probably goes back to 6 under? Supposed to be colder than heck all week. Not everyone feel like loading corn and fighting cold trucks. And CR basis in general seems to be enjoying some "vacuum" from the ECB? My drivers tell me the rail dump is always open at ADM, so does that mean the trains from the "land of wide basis" are rolling right past EIA and going to the other side of the Mississippi?
Also, since the merchandisers are of the mindset supplies are ample in EIA (and I must agree), I get the feeling they don't have tons of coverage on. Plenty of hand to mouth buying. Throw out a 20 below windchill for this week and you get these little basis pops. Take advantage of them.
