we have section 179, in the 70's and 80's they had "Investment Credit". My Dad used that for an excuse to buy stuff, the credits could be carried forward but he still ended up not being able to use some and losing them because he didn't make enough profit(early 80's, I believe). Variable interest rates getting to near 20% didn't help either.
