Exactly, John. For a long time now, I have had two "rules" for government. In order for capitalism to work, they need to:

1. Ensure adequate competition.

2. Ensure accountability at every level.

I think these two conditions are about all we need to have things work. After a few years I did add one more:

3. Ensure that too few people do not end up with all the marbles. (But this one is really a part of rule #1 above)



And yet look at the howl that goes up here every time somebody mentions estate taxes, which are somewhat designed to do exactly that. With a 5 mil exemption, 99+% of even all the farms are covered, but yet, the farm groups jump up to be the poster child for that little gig every time it gets talked about and how high estate taxes will be the complete death of the family farm... When in reality high estate taxes with no loopholes are the end of dynastic wealth.
