"Waste extraction". Ewww, sounds unsettling, never thought of it like that, but plausible in the Star Trek context. Possibly solid waste can be "beamed" out of the body, but perhaps as a result of the sudden removal, the colon would immediately contract to fill the empty space, causing oneself to rip a huge fart. That's why there is still need for a private room to do this.
