South Central Saskatewan | I have done a fair number of bottom replacements, when the second bottom is worn out you may want to replace the whole flighting and be sure to check the tube before you do as it's probably done as well. When you put the replacement bottom flighting in be sure that you can weld the top to the shaft. If not it may collapse inside the tube. I used to unlock the top bearing and pull the flighting back a bit, now I just weld as far up into the tube as possible and cut the new flighting at the bottom to match the original. Both work and I didn't notice a difference in longevity or performance. It's a good, quick and inexpensive repair (~$40). Wish there were more like that on the farm. | |
