Now I would guess you meant Saudi Arabia and Iran, numbers 3 and 7. yes there is a rub there but it's Sunni against Shia since it was a Sunni government putting to death a Shiite cleric. Here's a few facts, Sunnis make up about 80-90% of all Muslims but Iraq, Iran are dominated by Shiites, even the oil producing areas of Saudi Arabia is Shiite. Now Isis is Sunni and so is the ruling royalty of Saudi Arabia . How tangled is all this, well we have had close ties with Saudi Arabia but that has been strained by the death of King Abdullah who was trying to find a common ground with the Shia only to be replaced by his half brother Salman who probably fears Isis and their desire to get rid of the royal family. Many of the Isis fighters are Saudis and have a strong backing by the populace of Saudi Arabia, oh so tangled. Right now it looks like Iran is slightly less evil than Isis and the Sunni Muslims who are fundamentalists. So here we sit wondering why it all hasn't exploded in that region yet but every day we watch new fuses being lit. | |
