NCND | We use to sell grain a car at a time back in late 70s and 80s. Had two tail properties. Bnsf started changing things and it just made it next to impossible for us to use them in the way we had to sell grain on.
When oil boom hit this way several guys looked at our sidings and none could make anything work. These were old country elevator sidings about 1900 feet I think.
Last real use we had for the sidings was we had a big nh3 tank that was at one of the elevators off the main line. They wouldn't ever bring up cars to fill out tank. Told us to move it to the other site. We did that they filled it once then said the elevator was too close to tracks and said to move it again. This was about same time they stopped brining us cars. Long story short that was basically the end of the rail deal for us.
I'm going off memory but I'll ask dad and he can maybe fill in the gaps better.
Fwiw we still have the leases on the two sidings and pay the taxes on them every year. We have to tear down everything in order to get out of the leases. Railroads kinda stink to deal with. | |
