East Central, Nebraska | I would so much like to hear the outcome of this test. About 6 or so years ago i put my JD 566 up against a 8465 CIH and my machine did circles around the CIH. Oddly enough CaseIH equiptment is usually my pick but i learned in hay my JD beats all in the area, when it cames down to time spent in the field, hay or cornstalks. JD put that roller on their new 568's which doesn't exactly impress me in alfalfa but is supposed to kick A** in corn stalks. As for myself, i haven't got a chance to try it yet. Damn crappy weather. A huge factor in baling cornstalks is how its cut/chopped. When i was up against the CIH machine they were windrowed. After that I raked them, and still could haul A**, but when i bought my new Loftness windrower shredder it takes a little more time. The feedlots don't like it that way as much either because you don't get the corn in the bale like the windrower or rake. But raking really ruins a rake and i started to wonder where all those foot long tines were going.... I myself bale to sell mostly to feedlots, they seem to love them, and for the money i do too. All the sudden though farm publicaitons are starting to fill me in on what that takes away from the ground and its a bit scary. I hope to hear back on the vermeer vs. JD test though. I doubt i will change but it might be tempting. They all will bale cornstalks but that time of year, just like the regular hay season, time is important.... GOOD LUCK.
*Also I use them for my own cow heard for bedding usually but its a funny thing since i started using that shredder, they seem to eat most of the bale other than laying on them, and i feed my cows well. It didn't make much sense. | |
