East Arkansas | Very common in some areas, used to be a bigger deal everywhere. Example, a lot of gins have say 5000-10000 ( some a lot more some a lot less) acres of land and they will rent you an acre of their land if you bring them an outside acre(your owned land).
In years past a lot of guys just rented ground from gins and they had to grow all cotton because of it. Things are a little different now in that in most areas a farmer will own a significant part of his land and use gin ground and/or other rented land to increase his acres. Cotton gins are known to be pushy. Glad I don't grow cotton and have a bunch of landlords and owned land, can't imagine dealing with that to farm.
