Aberdeen MS | not so much a "crop production" system we have been used to for many many years.
You in IL have the benefit of a bit longer growing season with not quite as long harsh conditions throughout the winter that I had in south central MN.
But it isn't a "blanket" management system. By that I mean each field will require different management possibly. What worked for me in the deep top soil, 3.5 - 4.5 OM level soils, probably won't work for you verbatim. But it can be a starting point that can be tweaked.
If you do decide to delve into the unknown, also realize you are looking at possibly 5 yrs before it starts coming together.
My email is good if you want to explore things a bit more. I've been out of farming for 2 yrs now, but I started strip tilling/banding 10 yrs ago when strip tilling was in it's infancy I guess you could say.
If you search on my handle in Crop Talk going back 8 yrs or so ago, I was quite active posting, and shared a lot of info I experienced. | |
