That is where the LFTR's shine. It is my understanding (?) that LFTR's will consume, or burn up a lot of the spent fuel from traditional reactors. That makes this a grand slam in my book. Use up a bunch of our spent fuel / nuclear weapons in a safer reaction process, while producing more efficient energy. Is it perfect? maybe not. But better than what we have now.
