If you want to believe what Purdue's research says, then maybe. They report they've seen 0-16 bu better with N on with the planter and always 1-2 points dryer. Here in low OM, low CEC soils even in tillage, most run some kind of starter with planter. No-till we run 15-20 gap of 28% w/ S included at 3" over seed depth and have seen 10-16 bpa better (1/2 field split run across the scales).
