+1. I fought 5 hp compressor for some time trying to start with my Ranger 8 (8000 watts). Sometimes it would, sometimes no. Depended on temp, whether the unloaded worked, etc. Thought the motor might have been bad, so plugged it into a 240V outlet, it started just fine. Finally bought a honda powered compressor from Northern Tool. Much more air and always starts.
