Central Nebraska

IAGary - 11/29/2015 19:58 If you run the motor on 220 volts it takes 20 amp. So 220 x 20 amps is 4400 watts for normal running. On start up a motor may take half again as much. I would want a 7000 watt or more generator. Gary

I don't remember the specifics but several years ago my electrician and I were wiring up my three way disconnect during an ice storm so I could use my 8,000 watt generator for my house.  The first several times we tired to put it online it stalled.  I then realized that I had turned off all the big loads in the house but not the shop compressor.  It was trying to run when it saw power.  Flipped its breaker off and everything worked fine.  I don't think my 8,000 watt could run that compressor based on that.
