2007 was the beginning of the ethanol boom. Corn acres took those acres from beans. The relative high price of corn when compared to beans is what drove the massive acreage switch that year. China soy imports slowly increased every year from 25.8 in 04/05 to 37.8 in 07/08. Price drove the whole acreage switch.
