Sac & Story county IA
It is a risk - reward deal. Most of the time get along ok. Elevator must own corn in open piles. Sometimes the state of Iowa will give temporary warehouse status to open piles. Covered piles can be warehouse corn. It is sort of a "you have to do something with it" deal. On years when the crop has to be dealt with from 30% moisture, there is a lot of spoilage. Just not facilities to handle it better.

You can guarantee train lots of corn will be 4.9% damage, 2.9% BCFM and 14.9% moisture. Unless contract terms specify different.

A good state inspector came to an elevator manager and asked "do you have any damaged corn?" Manager "yes" Inspector "more than you can handle?" Manager "no". End of discussion.
