The amount of spoilage can be significant. There are companies that specialize in buying bad grain. When it turns black and smells like crap it is over. In 2008 a local elevator had over 700000 go bad . A lot of crap does get blended in as the elevators just wait for farmers to bring in some good stuff. In my opinion it does make a lot of the dockage laughable. Obviously quality isn't really that big of a deal. I also reminded of a wheat pile they gased for rats several years ago, made Tyson smell like thanksgiving dinner.
