Well for certain people in that group, there is direct government support.

Occupational Licensing is a government support for professional wages. It actively suppresses the labor force in those industries, forcing society to deal with a narrow selection of government approved providers.

It is sold as being needed to protect society at large... and it does somewhat, but fewer people mean higher wages.

Consider what would be said about agriculture if only those licensed by the government could sell commodities. It would be called a supply management based system.
