WC MN | I posted this in Stock talk also but thought I might have better response here. I run a small cow-calf operation but have room and feed for a few more head. I have made a backgrounding budget and have been thinking about buying 65ish head so I could hedge them. I have hedged grains before but never cattle. I still have plenty of unanswered questions though, Is the feeder cattle market always as inverted as it is now? Also what strategies do people use, just sell a futures option, use put options, etc. Any good websites or information on cattle basis, I would buy around 550-6 and sell around 800.
